Bless the rains down in Africa…

After five weeks in Africa, I’m back, inspired, excited, and reteaching myself to live in a world with food, water, and electricity.

Spending the last month in Liberia was both amazing and tough.  I learned as much as I taught (if not more), witnessed a life I have never lived, and became part of a community of children who will remain in my heart for the rest of my life.

As I begin to catch up on life, I wanted to begin to post pictures from my trip.  I’m sure throughout the next week or two, I will be adding stories and more pictures.

Thank you SO much to everyone for your amazing support.  I loved reading news, funny stories, and heartfelt messages from home throughout the month.

We watched the sunset every evening – there’s nothing like an African sunset.

School…

I think he could qualify as my adopted son.  He is ten and walked down to sit in my classroom to watch me teach every day even though he didn’t go to school.  I walked him home at the end of the day, we did school work together, and worked on our Michael Jackson dance moves.

He’s a future photographer!  I took my camera out to the football (soccer) field a lot of evenings and I taught him how to use my camera.  He loved it and it was exciting to watch him learn.

Liz, these pictures are fantastic! They brought me right back to my experience in Africa. It’s so true, that continent has a way of reaching into you. There are moments I’m I know will always stick with me, for good and for bad. I’m so excited that you got the chance to see such a different way of life, and of course I’m glad you’re home safe. next time you’re in VA we should swap stories.
